Hormann is one of the largest garage door manufacturers in Europe, and many of its doors in the UK are electric sectional doors, which we do not work on. Hormann also made and supplied manual up and over doors, and those use a handle lock connected to locking points at the sides of the door. Those manual doors are the ones we cover.
On a manual Hormann up and over door, the usual jobs are a new handle set, a new cylinder with new keys, or replacing worn rods and latches so the door locks firmly again.
Common Hormann lock faults
- Cylinder worn or keys lost - replaced with new keys. See lock barrel replacement.
- Handle set damaged - replaced with a handle that matches the door.
- Locking rods bent or detached - the door opens on one side or will not lock.
- Side latches worn - replaced and adjusted to engage the frame.
- Electric or sectional Hormann door - not covered. You need a garage door engineer.
Identifying your door before we attend
Hormann doors usually carry a label or sticker on the inside of the door panel or on the frame, which may show the model and year. Send a photo of it with your enquiry, together with a photo of the outside handle and of the lock mechanism on the inside of the door. That is normally enough to confirm which parts fit, so the right handle, barrel or cable can be brought on the first visit.
Where an original Hormann part is no longer made, we fit a compatible replacement designed for that door type and check that both side latches retract fully and lock again when the door closes.

Manual doors only
We only work on manually operated up and over and side hinged doors that lock with a key. If your door has an electric opener, a remote or a wall button, you need a garage door engineer rather than a locksmith.
